Road Freight Operator

Leeds | Up to £35,000 | Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm | Permanent

My client is an established, privately owned freight forwarding business with a long-standing presence in the Leeds market and a strong customer base across the UK.

Due to continued requirements within their Operations team, they are now looking for an experienced Road Freight Operator to join their Import & Export department.

This is a varied role suited to an experienced freight forwarding professional who enjoys managing shipments from start to finish, building strong customer relationships and taking on additional responsibility within a close-knit team.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Import and Export shipments, working closely with customers, suppliers and internal teams to ensure freight moves efficiently and accurately.

Salary up to £35,000, depending on experience

Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm

35 hours per week

Permanent position with an established freight forwarder

29 days' holiday increasing to 34 days with serviceKey responsibilities will include:

Managing road freight Import and Export shipments from start to finish

Preparing freight quotations and calculating costs

Building jobs and completing relevant customs entries

Liaising with customers, suppliers and overseas partners

Preparing and checking shipping and customs documentation

Handling invoicing and associated administration

Monitoring shipments and resolving operational issues

Maintaining strong, long-term customer relationships

Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team

Managing your own workload while contributing to the wider Operations team

About You

The successful candidate will have solid experience within freight forwarding, ideally with a strong background in road freight operations and Import/Export.

You will be confident dealing directly with customers and suppliers and comfortable managing multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.

We're looking for someone with:

Proven freight forwarding / road freight operations experience

Good knowledge of Import and Export procedures

Experience with customs documentation and entries

Strong customer service and communication skills

Good IT skills and attention to detail

The ability to work independently and as part of a team
