Role: Lead Driver Manager

Location: Bletchley

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £88,013.99 per annum

Role Purpose

  • To lead, direct and manage the Driver Managers within their roles on a daily basis
  • To establish and manage the budget for train crew
  • To carry out train crew depot safety checks to maintain Group Standards and to ensure that recommended changes and improvements are implemented.
  • To develop and implement proposals for safety and productivity improvements in the train crew area.
  • To investigate train working incidents and irregularities and to recommend an action plan for resolution and to avoid recurrence.
  • To chair consultation and negotiation meetings with representatives of the recognised Trade Unions
  • To manage the train crew depot performance including determining the correct establishment, dealing with recruitment, disciplinary and welfare issues
  • Responsible for Sickness management and Welfare of Drivers and Managers at designated location
  • The post holder should develop a culture of customer care amongst the train crew
  • To conduct rules exams as required
  • To manage collaborative relationships with client and stake holders within rail businesses with respect to train crew operations including Network Rail, RDG, RSSB, TOCs and FOCs and other regulatory bodies.
  • Lead on diagram and timetable change

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure all activities carried out by your team comply with Chiltern Railways’ Safety Management System (SMS) and any associated company, legal or industry standards.
  • Ensure all Driver Managers are aware of their delegated safety responsibilities.
  • Ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of all employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Identify all risks associated with Chiltern Railways activities and ensure that these are controlled to as low as reasonably practicable through the application of the SMS
  • Ensure that all accidents and incidents are reported, fully investigated and adequate remedial measures put in place to prevent a recurrence
  • Ensure messages concerning safety are properly communicated and understood in accordance with Railway Group Standards
  • Promote safety management within your team. Undertake safety tours and audits as outlined in the SMS or as otherwise directed by the Company.
  • Ensure the welfare and conduct of employees are managed within Chiltern Policies and Procedures.
  • Improve employee attendance through active management of sickness both short and long term
  • Attend work in a fit state and always comply with the Chiltern Railways Alcohol & Drugs policy. Inform your Manager of any medications being taken.
  • Comply with safety, fire evacuation, emergency and security procedures for each Chiltern Railways location attended.
  • Report all accidents, close calls, hazards, unsafe acts, breaches of security or suspicious activity.
  • Do not misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare. Use all equipment as per training and instructions.
  • Understand and comply with Chiltern Railways’ Safety Management System (SMS) and all associated company, legal or industry standards.
  • Co-operate with the Company to enable legal obligations relating to health and safety and the environment to be met.
