Getting your Class 1 licence is a big achievement, but finding a company willing to give you that first opportunity can be the hardest part. At Duke Distribution, we believe everyone has to start somewhere, and we're happy to give newly qualified drivers the chance to build their experience and develop their skills.

You'll receive a full induction, ongoing support and hands-on training to help you become a confident, capable and professional HGV driver. You'll have the opportunity to gain experience across a variety of trailers and deliveries, with guidance from an experienced transport team.

You don't need years of experience behind the wheel. We're looking for the right attitude, a willingness to learn and a commitment to working safely and professionally.

Newly qualified Class 1 drivers are encouraged to apply. You'll receive a full induction, training and ongoing support, with starting pay of £13.50 per hour, rising to £14.50 per hour once probation has been successfully completed.

This is a permanent, full-time position involving Monday to Friday tramping, usually with four nights away. Weekend work is available if you want additional hours, but there is no pressure to work weekends.

You'll drive a modern, well-maintained fleet and gain experience across a variety of work involving curtainsiders, flatbeds and step frames. Full training is provided in load restraint and flatbed and step frame operations. You'll also benefit from weekly bonus opportunities and support from a friendly, experienced transport office.

The Role

You'll carry out nationwide deliveries and collections, driving Class 1 vehicles safely and responsibly. You'll complete vehicle checks and ensure compliance with road safety

requirements while learning the correct load restraint and securing procedures.

You'll develop your experience with different trailer types, with training provided where required. You'll also communicate professionally with the transport office, customers and delivery sites, following instructions, working reliably and taking pride in your work.

Pay & Benefits

The starting rate is £13.50 per hour, increasing to £14.50 per hour once probation has been successfully passed. Weekend shifts are paid at £21.00 per hour, and a £30 night-out allowance is provided.

Additional benefits include a weekly compliance bonus, a damage reduction bonus and extra payments for step frame and Moffett work, subject to role

requirements. You'll also receive 28 days' paid holiday, increasing with length of service.

What We're Looking For

You'll need a valid Class 1 (C+E) driving licence, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. We're looking for someone with a responsible approach to driving and road safety, good timekeeping, reliability and a professional manner.

You'll need to be comfortable working independently while following company procedures, with a genuine desire to build a long-term career in HGV driving.

No previous Class 1 driving experience is required. We understand that newly qualified drivers need an opportunity to gain practical experience, and we'll provide the training and support to help you develop.
